What is Skin lesion removal ?
Benign skin lesions are non-cancerous growths or abnormalities on the skin that can vary in size, shape, and color. While most benign skin lesions are harmless, they can sometimes cause discomfort or cosmetic concerns. Removal of benign skin lesions is a common dermatological procedure aimed at improving the appearance of the skin, relieving symptoms, and preventing potential complications.
What applications is this used for?
- Cosmetic Concerns: Some benign lesions, such as moles, skin tags, or seborrheic keratoses, may be aesthetically displeasing or affect self-confidence.
- Discomfort or Irritation: Lesions that rub against clothing or jewelry, itch, bleed, or cause pain may warrant removal to alleviate symptoms.
- Concern for Malignancy: While most benign skin lesions are harmless, certain features or changes may raise concern for malignancy, prompting removal for diagnostic purposes or peace of mind.
- Preventive Measures: Removing benign lesions, such as atypical moles, may reduce the risk of developing skin cancer in the future.
Types of lesions..
- Moles (Nevi): Pigmented growths on the skin that can vary in color, size, and shape.
- Skin Tags: Small, soft, fleshy growths that protrude from the skin, often found in areas of friction or folds.
- Seborrheic Keratoses: Raised, wart-like growths with a waxy, scaly appearance, typically found in older adults.
- Cherry Angiomas: Red or purple, benign blood vessel growths that appear on the skin’s surface.
- Lipomas: Benign fatty tumors that develop beneath the skin’s surface, often felt as soft, rubbery lumps.
The Procedures
-
- Excision: Surgically cutting out the lesion and closing the wound with sutures. This method is suitable for larger or deeper lesions and allows for examination of the tissue.
- Shave Excision: Using a scalpel or razor blade to shave off the lesion’s surface layer. This method is often used for raised lesions and typically does not require sutures.
- Cryotherapy: Freezing the lesion with liquid nitrogen, causing it to blister and eventually fall off. Cryotherapy is suitable for smaller lesions and may require multiple treatments.
- Electrosurgery: Using a high-frequency electrical current to remove the lesion and cauterize the surrounding tissue. This method is effective for smaller lesions and may result in minimal scarring.
- Laser Therapy: Using laser energy to target and destroy the lesion. Laser therapy is often used for pigmented lesions and may require multiple sessions.
What is the recovery time ?
Recovery after benign skin lesion removal depends on the removal method and the size and location of the lesion. Patients may experience mild discomfort, swelling, redness, or scarring following the procedure. Proper wound care and follow-up appointments are essential to ensure optimal healing and minimize complications. It’s essential to protect the treated area from sun exposure and follow any post-procedure instructions provided by the healthcare provider.
what patients say
He is down to earth...
Mr Jeevan listened to my problem, explained exactly what he could do, explained what complications and possible outcomes could be. I had a much better understanding, at no time did I feel rushed or unimportant. On the day of the procedure, I was confident I would get the best possible care from him. He is down to earth and not at all pompous or uncaring unlike some members of his profession. My outcome was fantastic and I am very thankful I went to see him.
I would not hesitate to recommend...
The whole service provided has been second to none. Mr Jeevan put me completely at ease, thoroughly explained my condition and a range of possible treatments. I am very impressed with the speed of the treatment from initial consultation to surgery which only took two weeks. Mr. Jeevan made sure I was very comfortable during and after surgery and cannot speak too highly of him and his team, including the nursing staff. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Jeevan and the hospital in the future.
Perfect end result...
I recently had a breast augmentation with Mr Jeevan and it’s been the best decision I ever made. The end result is perfect and has give me some much needed confidence. Now let’s start with Mr Jeevan himself, he has been amazing throughout my Journey. From start to finish he really couldn’t do enough. From the very first consultation, he advised me on sizing, procedure and give me some much needed reassurance (I was a very nervous and squeamish patient). He has been very professional, approachable and accommodating
